Explore Berlin on two wheels! Known as one of Europe's most captivating modern cultural hubs, Berlin's vibrant energy draws travellers from every corner of the globe. The city's rich history and distinctive lifestyle have given rise to one-of-a-kind neighbourhoods found nowhere else in the world.
Bohemian crowds liven up the many trendy cafés and bars in the "Kiez", a typical Berlin neighborhood. Artists transform wastelands and old industrial buildings into studios and places of experimentation for creative expression. Huge areas like Tempelhof airport are simply taken over by Berliners for concerts and events. While historical Berlin and Potsdam are closely linked to the Hohenzollern kings and emperors, the Brandenburg Gate and Pariser Platz, the Chancellery and Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral and the French Cathedral, the Reichstag and Charlottenburg Palace are the theaters of the "new" Berlin, the center of power. Finally, the Wall bike path reveals another world at the gates of the city: the famous Glienicker Bridge, Peacock Island and the Sanssouci estate with its magnificent castle and park. Come along on a cycling adventure in Germany and experience Berlin in a fresh and exciting way!
Travel informations
Day 1: Arrival and Prenzlauer Berg - approx. 25 km
You will meet your guide after lunch time at the hotel Kastanienhof in Prenzlauer Berg. On this first bike day we explore the northern parts of the city. Once a classic working class neighborhood, they are now the backdrop for a modern and vibrant lifestyle. Prenzlauer Berg is characterised by stunning old structures dating back to its foundation, resulting in a remarkably consistent appearance. Over 300 buildings in the area have been recognized as historical landmarks. We cycle to Schönhausen Castle, once the guest house of the GDR State Council, and return to our hotel along the Panke. We have dinner in a very special restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg.
Day 2: Bike path from the Wall to Potsdam - approx. 25 km
We take the S-Bahn to Berlin-Wannsee. We cross the Königswald, pass the peacock island and arrive at the banks of the Havel where the Wall bicycle path is located. We cross the Glienicker bridge to Potsdam and discover the city on historical paths. Passing through Babelsberg and the newly built city castle, we arrive at the park and the castle of Sanssouci. Day 3: West Berlin Raisins and Friedrichshain - approx. 50 km
Following the winding bank of the Spree, we reach Charlottenburg Palace. The Hohenzollern residence is nestled in a magnificent baroque garden, ideal for our first break. The district and the lakes then quickly follow each other in the heart of the city. We soon find ourselves on the Kurfürstendamm, the main street of the "City West". The town hall of Schöneberg is on our way. It was on the square in front of the town hall that J. F. Kennedy gave his famous speech in 1963. After pausing for lunch at the lavish Kreuzberg covered market, we'll set out to explore the residential havens located to the south of Berlin. Our cycling route will take us to the Tempelhof airfield, which now boasts the world's largest green space within an urban area, offering enjoyment for hobbyist gardeners, skaters, and cyclists alike. Additionally, Tempelhof is an ideal place to delve deeper into Berlin's rich history. As we make a quick stop in the neighbouring Friedrichshain district, we'll get a sense of modern-day Berlin's vibe. The Mercedes-Benz Arena is just one example of the spectacular new buildings being erected here in the young and creative district of Friedrichshain.
