The Danes affectionately call this enchanting mix of long sandy beaches, countless islands and small harbours with colourful houses, with boats splashing their white sails on the sparkling water, "our South Sea". Deeply cut fjords with forests in the background invite you to explore this beautiful region by bike. Our cycling adventure takes us from Flensburg to Copenhagen, traversing seven Danish islands where the land meets the sea, creating a magical and picturesque landscape with over 500 islands and islets. We enjoy the vast expanse, the high skies and the maritime atmosphere. We will also visit the old royal city of Roskilde and greet the little mermaid of Copenhagen.

Day 1: Arrival in Flensburg

We meet in the afternoon in Flensburg. For more than 600 years, this commercial city was part of the Danish kingdom. During a guided tour, we discover the old town that runs parallel to the harbour, a testimony to the time when Flensburg became rich thanks to the East India trade.

Day 2: Als, Ærø and Fyn - approx. 48 km

Three islands are on the program today. A bus takes us to Sønderborg where we visit the imposing castle located directly on the harbour. Then we cycle to the island park of Als. Crossing the Little Belt by ferry from Fynshav to Ærø. The island is really idyllic with its secluded paths, small farms, windmills and beautiful beaches. Our next destination is Ærøskøbing, the capital of the island and a quintessential representation of Denmark's romantic image. The winding streets, vibrant half-timbered houses, towering hollyhocks, and old water pumps in the market square are sure to enchant you. In the afternoon we enjoy a boat trip across the Danish South Sea to Svendborg.

Day 3: Island tour: Fynn, Tåsinge, Siø, Langeland - approx. 50 km

We cross the Svendborgsund bridge to Tåsinge. The Valdemars Slot, one of the most beautiful late baroque buildings in Denmark, is picturesquely situated on the eastern shore of the small island. After a guided tour of the castle, we continue to the island of Siø in Langeland for a picnic on the beach. The slightly hilly landscape of the Langeland parks accompanies us to the red castle of Tranekær. We stroll through the castle's park and then cycle along the sea to the small port of Spodsbjerg. A transfer brings us back to Svendborg. During an evening walk, we can enjoy its lively atmosphere by the water.

Day 4: Funen Island - approx. 48 km

This island is called "the green garden of the kingdom". We cycle along the east coast of the island, admiring the beautiful manor houses and the largest boulder in Denmark, left by the melting glaciers. In the afternoon, we reach the peaceful royal town of Nyborg, which boasts a rich history. Nyborg is a historic Danish town that served as a significant center of trade, maritime activities, and political power, and played a crucial role in the history of the Danish kingdom, including being the site of the coronations of several Danish monarchs and the signing of the Treaty of Nyborg in 1397. We follow in the footsteps of Danish kings and queens, passing the Nyborg Castle and its fortress to reach our hotel located right next to the beach.

Day 5: Odense, the fairy tale town - approx. 52 km.

Our bike ride takes us through the small fishing town of Kerteminde, past the Viking tomb ship of Ladby, an important archaeological relic, and finally to Odense. Here, Danish literature comes to life as this city was the birthplace of the world's most famous author of fairy tales, Hans Christian Andersen. He was a Danish author and poet who is best known for his fairy tales, which have become beloved classics of children's literature. We visit the new Andersen museum and the Gothic cathedral of Knut the Saint before returning by train to Nyborg.

Day 6: Sjælland - approx. 55 km

Today we explore Denmark's largest island, Sjælland/Seeland. A transfer brings us to Ringsted, in the heart of the island. After visiting St. Bendts church, the oldest preserved brick church in Scandinavia, we head for Roskilde. We arrive at the beautiful Ledreborg Castle via a quiet road. Its hilly park is a typical example of 18th century architecture and landscaping. Arriving in Roskilde, we visit the cathedral, the most important religious building in Denmark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the final resting place of many Danish kings and queens.

Day 7: Royal Copenhagen - approx. 13 km

The train takes us to the heart of the Danish capital. Copenhagen is a city with many smiling faces! Visitors can explore its numerous palaces and islands, the vibrant district of Christiania, the serene Royal Garden and Rosenborg Castle, a quaint old town, and lively squares with a Southern European ambiance. Additionally, the city's famous Little Mermaid statue is sure to capture your heart. With its bike-friendly infrastructure, Copenhagen is also considered one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in Europe. After a guided tour of the city by bike, we settle in at the hotel.

Day 8: Departure or extension

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you have the option to either depart or extend your stay in the destination as per your preference.
