They say all roads lead to Rome, and on this electric bike adventure, we'll be following the ancient pilgrimage routes to Assisi and Rome. We'll ride along beautiful roads from Florence to Rome, the eternal city, passing through Tuscany and Umbria. Along the way, we'll be amazed by the striking contrasts between the joy of life linked to the land, delicious gastronomy, good wines, and a proverbial mood on one hand, and the deep-rooted mysticism of saints and hermits on the other. We'll also encounter brilliant works of art from the Renaissance, Etruscan necropolises, exceptional Roman and Gothic architecture, and wild-looking nature, deep forests, untamed rivers, and orchids growing along the paths.

The impressive scenery of the Apennines boasts wide river valleys and large lakes. Finally, in Rome, we'll have the pleasure of meeting Andreas Englisch, a journalist, author, and intimate connoisseur of the Vatican, who will give us an exclusive look at his Rome.

Day 1: Florence

You will meet your guide in Florence, at our comfortable hotel near the historic center. We will be guided with enthusiasm through the city of the Medici, the cradle of the Renaissance. We will also have time to enjoy the "dolce vita" in one of the city's beautiful squares.

Day 2: Pilgrimage routes in the Arno Valley - approx. 37 km

Framed by the Monti del Chianti and Pratomagno, the Arno winds through a fertile valley. A bus takes us to Pieve di Gropina, situated on a mountain spur at the foot of Pratomagno. We visit the village with its winding alleys and cycle down a short stretch of road to Loro Ciuffena, home to the most beautiful country church in Tuscany. This Romanesque church, located on the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome, charms visitors with its clear shapes and unique sculptures. We then cycle along an itinerary offering clear views of the Arno valley to Arezzo. In the evening, a walk through the city to the Piazza Grande closes this beautiful day.

Day 3: Val di Chiana and Cortona - about 47 km

In the morning we admire the frescoes of the Legend of the True Cross, a masterpiece by Piero della Francesca. We then cycle through the Chiana Valley amidst a lush landscape dotted with picturesque farmhouses. After our picnic lunch in the shade of the church, we reach Cortona in the early afternoon, a village that sits like a balcony above the Chiana Valley. The view extends to Lake Trasimeno to the south. We explore its winding streets on foot, amazed.

Day 4: Lago di Trasimeno - approx. 34 km

We go down to the lake of Trasimeno. Very quickly, we enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake. In Turro, modern works of art on the shoreline recall the famous battle of Hannibal against the Romans and invite us to take a break. We then cycle along the shores of the lake to Torricella. After a picnic on the beach, a bus takes us to the historical center of Perugia. Our beautiful hotel Sangallo Palace is located in the old town, not far from the 16th century Rocca Paolina fortress. During a guided tour of the city, we will marvel at the palaces of Corso Vannucci, the Duomo, the famous Fontana Maggiore and the Priors' Palace.

Day 5: To meet the "Poverello" of Assisi - approx. 38 km

The Volumnier tomb, one of the most famous Etruscan necropolises, is our first stop on the way to the Tiber Valley. At noon, we are expected at the Lungarotti winery for a wine tasting. Then we cycle through the Tiber valley towards Assisi. From a distance, we can already see the city towering on the slopes of the imposing Mount Subasio. During a guided tour of the city of the saint, we will admire the lower and upper churches of St. Francis, whose layout is a true Gothic picture book, as well as the ancient temple of Minerva, which so enthused Goethe.

Day 6: The masterpiece of Pinturicchio - approx. 15 km

Descending along the slopes of Monte Subasio, we reach the enchanting town of Spello, constructed entirely out of pink travertine. While wandering through the streets of Spello, we come across the magnificent Baglioni Chapel adorned with a masterpiece by Pinturicchio. After a leisurely stroll in Spello, we take the train to Rome. After settling in at the hotel, Andreas Englisch awaits us for a joint dinner in a Roman trattoria.

Day 7: The exclusive Vatican

Today, more highlights await us with Andreas English. In the morning, we will visit the famous Papal Basilica of St. Peter, one of the largest religious buildings in the world. One of the side chapels houses Michelangelo's 15th century Pietà. The bronze statue of St. Peter, sculpted by Arnolfo di Cambio around 1300, is also world famous. After lunch, we will discover Palazzo Colonna during an exclusive guided tour. This noble palace has belonged to the Colonna family for 23 generations and is only partially open to the public. A Roman dinner will conclude this unique day.
